Thalaiyar falls is the pride of Tamilnadu, as this is the highest falls in the state and sixth highest in India. This 975 ft tall waterfalls looks like a rat tail at a long distance, hence why it is also called as Rat tail falls. The lovely falls is located in the Palani hills of Dindigul district, Tamilnadu.
Yet another fascinating thing about his falls is that, on the top of the falls on either sides a small concrete wall is erected to direct the flow of the water to a narrow path. Visitors can walk/ Sit on the concrete wall and can enjoy the spectacular view in front of them.
This falls can be viewed from Dum Dum rock on a clear sunny day. From there it appears like a thin white thread hanging from a cliff and having black rocks as a backdrop.
The water from this falls is not very pure as the source of this waterfalls comes from Perumal Malai village, which is 9 km away from this falls. So the visitor are not suggested to drink the water.
Unlike other falls Rat tail falls is not easily accessible to the public. Hikers can reach up to the top of the falls, but should be very cautious while climbing as the path is very rude with large sharp slippery rocks. Hiking to the bottom of the falls is quite easy, but without a local guide please do not try to trek.
This falls has no direct roads connecting to it. The nearest bus stop is Manjalar Reservoir (2.1 kilometres).
